Draft Mortality Tables for Public Retirement Plans Released

Vectra DigitalBlog, Retirement

The Society of Actuaries has released an exposure draft for their public retirement plan mortality study. This study focuses exclusively on the mortality experience of public retirement plans, in contrast to the Society’s previous study which excluded public experience. The goals of this study were not just to develop public mortality tables, but also to examine the data for insights into relevant factors such as job category (teacher, public safety, general), health status, and geographic region.

The exposure draft can be found here: https://www.soa.org/experience-studies/2018/pub-2010-retirement-plans/. Note that this is still in draft form at this time. Comments on the draft tables are due by October 31, 2018. The final version will likely be available in time for 2019 valuations.

We are still in the process of reviewing the report and determining impacts on our clients; we will provide more insights after completing our review.  In the meantime, feel free to contact your Foster & Foster consultant with any questions you may have.
